FOCUS SKILL: SEQUENCE

Writers put events into a logical sequence, or order of events. Also, a strict sequence of events is more important in some selections than in others. Writers may include words and phrases that indicate time and order to help make the sequence of events clear. Examples of time and order words include first, next, then, later, and finally.

1.  Please find three sentences from pages 56-57 that contain sequence words and write them below.   

At last Hillary dragged himself over the top of the rock and onto a wide ledge.   

Then, securing his end of the rope,he motioned for Tenzing to follow. 

Then they noticed a small crack that rose like a chimney between the rock and cornice of ice.                                                         

2.  Please list five words from pages 60-61 that are sequence words.
