How to Apply
Free and Reduced Price Meals are available, under the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), to all families who believe they may qualify. There are two ways to apply.
Complete a Free and Reduced Price Meal Application ONLINE. The online application allows you to apply online in the comfort and privacy of your home. It is convenient, safe, secure and available anytime.
Complete a paper Free and Reduced Price Meal Application form. Paper forms can be obtained and returned to any Elk Grove Unified school office, cafeteria or the Elk Grove Unified Food & Nutrition Services office at 8389 Gerber Road, Sacramento, CA 95828.
Families need only complete one meal application per household.
A household is considered all persons, related or unrelated who live in your home and share living expenses including: parents, children and grandparents. A new application must be completed each year and will remain effective for the entire school year. An application can be completed at any time during the school year.
Eligibility is determined by household size and total household income or by a categorical eligibility (family receives family receive CalFresh, Calworks, FDPIR, Kin-GAP or the student is a foster student). The information you provide will be used to determine your child’s eligibility for free or reduced price meals. This information may also be used for other state or federally funded school benefits. Your child will not be overtly identified and their meal eligibility will remain confidential.
Please allow for 7 to 10 business days for your application to be processed. Once the application has been approved, the family will be notified by EGUSD Food and Nutrition Services through U.S. Mail. Please keep in mind that all meals consumed prior to your application being approved MUST be paid for.
