USDA’s National School Lunch Program
EGUSD Food and Nutrition Services participates in the National School Lunch Program. State and Federal regulations mandate nutrition requirements as well as portion sizes. The goal is to provide at least 1/3 of the recommended dietary allowance for children of the various age groups. Meals must meet standards regarding calories, and sodium and provide no more than 30 percent of the calories from fat, and less than 10 percent of the calories from saturated fat. The menus are analyzed on a nutrition software program to meet those goals.
USDA’s School Breakfast Program
The School Breakfast Program operates in the same manner as the National School Lunch Program. School breakfast meets recommendations of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Breakfasts must provide ¼ of the recommended dietary allowance for calories and provide no more than 30 percent of the calories from fat, and less than 10 percent of the calories from saturated fat. The menus are analyzed on a nutrition software program to meet those goals.
