Meal Service Update

Message from Communications

July 31, 2020

Dear Elk Grove Unified Students, Parents and Families,

School starts on Monday for our Year Round schools and we hope everyone gets off to a great start for the new school year. Today’s update provides information on curb-side meal services, independent study programs and a new survey that will be sent out to our stakeholders to gather input required by the state.

Beginning on Monday, August 3rd, lunch and breakfast meals will be available for pick-up for students enrolled at a school on the year-round (YR) schedule. Students that attend a school on either a Traditional (T) or Modified Traditional (Mod. T) school calendar schedule may start picking up meals on Thursday, August 13th. Meals should be picked up at a student’s school of enrollment. For students who attend a school that is not offering Curb-Side Meal Service, meals may be picked up from a school within the same region.

  • Meal pick-up is available Mondays through Fridays from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
  • Meals should be picked up at a child’s school of enrollment or school within the same region. If a family has multiple EGUSD students, meals may be picked up from the school where the majority of the students attend.
  • Proof of enrollment at an EGUSD school will be required for the initial pickup. (Please see additional details for meal pickup)
  • Meals will be pre-packaged, cold meals to be consumed at home. Families will be offered a choice of meat or vegetarian option.
  • Qualified students that are eligible for free or reduced-price meals will be waived the meal price of either $1.75 (breakfast) or $2.75 (lunch).
  • Curb-side meal service will continue as long as Full Distance Learning is in effect.

Click here for more information about the EGUSD 2020-2021 Curb-Side Meal Service.

For parents interested in learning more about EGUSD Independent Study programs, these programs are available through Las Flores High School and the Elk Grove USD (K-8) Virtual Academy. The Independent Study program assigns students to one teacher who develops an individualized learning plan for students to make progress on their learning goals and monitors students’ independent learning progress. To learn more about these programs, contact your school’s teacher or visit the schools noted above that offer an Independent Study program.

Also starting on Monday, as part of our stakeholder engagement process for the Learning Continuity and Attendance Plan 2020, the District will distribute a new online parent and staff survey. In addition to demographic questions, each survey has 6 open-ended questions for respondents to make suggestions around key priority areas: in-person instruction, distance learning, learning loss, mental, social and emotional health, student engagement and meal service. Your continued attention and responses to past surveys and ongoing engagement has been helpful, useful, instructive and greatly appreciated.

Thank you and stay safe and stay healthy,

EGUSD Leadership

Elk Grove Unified to Start 20-21 School Year with Full Distance Learning

“Based on our collaboration with and updated information from public health officials, and with ongoing support and feedback from our Board of Education and labor partners, we will start our school year in August with our improved Full Distance Learning model,” affirmed Christopher R. Hoffman, Superintendent of Schools.

He further stated, “Thanks to our community and their valued feedback, we have developed a flexible plan that enables us to respond and adapt effectively to changing health conditions. Based on recent challenges in testing, the inability to receive timely results and the significant rise in confirmed cases, current health conditions warrant a shift back to our Full Distance Learning model. The goal for the entire Elk Grove Unified community is a safe and full return to school when health conditions allow.”

District officials, school administrators and staff will continue to reach out to parents understanding the importance of the safety for our students and staff and the significant impact this will have on the entire community, students, families and staff. The District along with each school will provide parents with more Back-to-School details. Parents are asked to check their emails regularly and their school and District websites for updates, past information and for additional services and resources.
