Flu season is here and activity continues to increase nationwide.  In order to help stop the spread of germs and sickness, please adopt the following recommendations per Sacramento County Public Health Department:

  • Keep sick children home from school.
  • Make sure to ask your health care provider about getting the flu vaccine to prevent further spread.
  • Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze with tissues or coughing in your elbow.  Colds and flu are spread from person to person in respiratory droplets of coughs and sneezes.
  • If some of the people in your home are sick with the flu, keep them away from the other people who are not sick.
  • If you or members of your family are sick, please consult your health care provider for treatment.
  • Be sure to wash your hands for 15 to 20 seconds with soap and water.  If soap and water are not available, then an alcohol-based disposable hand wipes or gel may be used.
  • Dispose of all tissues in the trash immediately after use.
  • Here are some things that you can do if you are sick with the flu:
    • Drink a lot of liquid (juice, water)
    • Rest as much as possible

Handwashing is still the number one way to prevent spreading or becoming ill.  Please see attached resources to use at your sites and in the classrooms.  Please help us spread the word on illness prevention and good handwashing techniques to our students, families, and staff.
