New online college and career tool for students can help CTE teachers find new recruits

Every school site has access to a wealth of information through reports that can be run from the California College Guidance Initiative (CCGI) site. In fact, these reports can also be a fantastic recruiting tool for academy and pathways. According to Jackie Nevarez, Elk Grove Unified School District’s College and Career Pathways Counselor, “In California College Guidance Initiative at Elk Grove Unified high schools, the Saved Career Reports may also serve as a recruitment tool. I have shared this with middle and high school counselors so teachers can ask them for help to pull the data reports. I am happy that 50 percent of eighth grade students, 47 percent of ninth grade students and 40 percent of 11th grade students have expressed interest in one or more careers. This is great data for our Career Technical Education teachers to use for recruiting. There’s less guess work and CTE teachers can better estimate how much outreach they need to do and with with student population.”
