Principal’s Back to School Message

Dear John Ehrhardt Elementary School Families,

I want to welcome everyone to a new school year. This year our school theme is Team Work (Together, Everyone, Achieves, More). Helen Keller once said, “Alone we can do so little. Together we can do so much.” We believe it is important to help students learn how to be part of a school community that is supportive, works collaboratively, sets goals and maintains a growth mindset. Our school team (teachers, paras, office staff, custodians, etc.) have worked very hard to ensure that your child will have an amazing school year. Below you will find a few important dates and times for the beginning of the school year in addition to some reminders:

Back to School Night Wednesday, August 21st from 5:30 to 7:00PM. Back to School Night begins in the Multi-Purpose Room. All parents are encouraged to attend this very important night. We look forward to seeing you!

General Session: 5:30-6:00 pm in Multipurpose Room with Ms. Williams & Ms. Doyle

1st Classroom Session: 6:00-6:30 pm in your children’s classrooms with their teacher

2nd Classroom Session: 6:30-7:00 pm in your children’s classrooms with their teacher

Our teachers are excited to have the opportunity to share curriculum and classroom expectations for the coming school year with you, our students’ parents. These presentations are designed for parents. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide childcare. Please make an effort to arrange childcare for your family.

New Staff members: As with any new year we have had some staffing changes. Ms. Lemay has transferred to the Family and Community Engagement Department, and we have a new Vice Principal, Ms. Cindy Doyle. We have several new to John Ehrhardt teachers, who come with a wealth of experience and enthusiasm!

Breakfast program: We will continue serving breakfast this year, beginning the first day of school. Breakfast service will begin at 7:30 am in the multi-purpose room and will cost $1.75.

Student Arrival and Dismissal: Student safety is one of our top priorities. Our campus gates will remain locked until 7:45. Students will line up with their class on the quad where teachers will greet students at 7:55 and begin walking to class. Students who arrive to school after 8:00 a.m. should report to the office for a tardy slip. At dismissal, students are expected to immediately either walk or bike home from school (no loitering on campus). Students waiting for parent pickup or for other siblings should wait at the flagpole near the main office in front of the school. Westgate, near CDI and Case Park is another student drop-off/pickup area.

Our PM Kinder teachers will also walk kinder students to the flagpole to meet sibling(s).

Our recess and lunch schedule for the 2019-20 school year has changed. Please refer to the General Info section on our website for our daily schedule.

School traffic and parking: At the beginning of the year, it will be very important for us to work together during arrival and dismissal times. We are congested during peak times, so we need to be patient and kind to one another as we are dropping off and picking up our children. Please pull all the way forward as directed by staff before stopping to unload or load children and respect the handicapped and no parking designations. Use caution when walking through the parking lot and make sure to use crosswalks at all times. Our children learn responsible behavior through our modeled adult actions.
