Grades 5 and 8 Science Test in room 27 …9:30 am- 11:30 (pen and paper testing)
The State of California has developed an online assessment called the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC). It assesses all 3rd-12th grade students on Math and ELA (English Language Arts- Reading, Writing, Grammar, Punctuation, etc…) proficiency.
Our testing window will be in April. Exact dates will be sent out as soon as we have them.
In order to help prepare each student for this exam, we highly recommend that you spend some time each week (example: 30 minutes each Tuesday and 30 minutes each Thursday?) going over the Training and Practice tests for your specific grade level.
You may want to print the following out (it came from the State and they love lengthy instructions. The only thing they forgot was to have us do the Hokey Pokey )
To access the practice site go to: http://www.smarterbalanced.org/practice-test/
Click on box with green letters that say:Take The Practice Training Tests (middle of page)
Next page: Click on little green box with bike at the bottom.
On the next page, find the large red trike. Click there for “California Students”.
On the next page, click box that says “Sign In” (you do not need to fill in any of the fields since you are there as a “guest”)
Next Page: Is This You? Choose your grade level and then click “Yes”
A page with”Your Tests” will appear.
Click the “Training” tests in Math or ELA before moving onto “Practice” or “Performance Tasks”.
After you have clicked on your selection, the new page will show “Choose Settings”. Leave them as is, and click “Select”
Next Page: Scroll down and click on “Start My Test”
Alas, the test does not start quite yet. Before doing the “Training” test, be sure to read over the “Overview of Student Test site and Test Tools” by clicking on this “blue” link. The “Tools” part will be especially helpful. You may even want to “print screen” of the tools and how to use them during the test. ( For the “Practice” and “Performance Task” click on Begin Test Now.)
Once you have looked over “Tools” click on box “Begin Test Now”.
Using the tools, notepads, etc…answer each question as best you can. You move to next question by clicking on the arrow in the upper left hand corner.
Practice makes perfect!
Please join us on March 2 at California’s State Capital to learn, enjoy, and engage in the art of being a US citizen. This event is being hosted by “California Parents For Virtual Education” and they have planned a day of informative fun for all.
We will meet at the International World Peace Rose Garden on the corner of 15th Street and Capital Ave at 10:00. At 10:10 we will take a leisurely walk through the beautiful grounds and pass several memorials on our way to the Capital building and all the activities.
At this point you are free to visit all the booths, take part in the activities, sign up to meet with your elected officials, or join a tour in the Capital or a nearby museum.
If the weather is nice, you may want to pack a picnic lunch. Please bring your orange EGVA backpack/cinchsack to carry any “goodies” you may receive and wear your EGVA t-shirt if you have one.

Our 5th Annual Gingerbread House Contest and Winter Fun Social is next week! It is a time to meet, greet, and have some fun before our long Winter Break.
Where: Feickert Elementary Room 26
Date: Thursday, Dec. 11
Each family is being asked to bring in a “small bites” snack to share. The healthier the better and please no peanut products. (fruit, cheese, juice boxes, crackers, veggies, and a sprinkling of a few “sugarplums” are always good choices).
All gingerbread structures are created and built at home and brought in that morning. Everyone present gets to vote on their favorite one and the top 3 win a prize. Please let us know if your student(s) will be entering this contest. (For ideas go to Google Images/Gingerbread houses)
Food, fun, frolic….all that is missing is you! So please plan on joining us for this event!
