Dear Parents/Guardians,

It is time to turn our focus to California’s Standardized Testing (CST/STAR). All students in the Second through Eighth grades are required to participate in this testing.  The testing window, guidelines for administration, and procedures, are set by the state of California.

When:    Monday, April 16 and Friday, April 20  All 2nd – 8th Graders 

 

Time:      Promptly at 9:00 AM (meet in front of the main office off parking lot) Staff members will be there to greet you and your student.

 

How:      At 9:05 we will leave the front of the school and your student will be safely escorted by an EGVA staff member to their testing room.  They will be supervised at all times.

 

Students are allowed all the time they need to finish their exams.   Below is a guideline for each grade level based on their testing requirements to help with planning. You may want to make arrangements for your student to call you when they are finished and ready to be picked up. For most students (2nd-7th) it will be around 10:30.

 

 8th Grade has two subject matter tests each day (5th has two on April 20), so it will be closer to noon.

 

 

April 16:    Grades 2-7    English Language Arts Test…..70-80 questions each.  10 minute break  between sections.  Approx. time for completion: 2 hours

Grade 8        English Language Arts Test  81 questions. 10 minute break.. History Social Science Test   81 questions.

 April 20:         Grades 2-4 & 6-7  Math tests   70-80 questions each.  10 minute break  between sections. 

Approx. time for completion: 2 hours

 

         Grades 5 & 8     Math tests 81 questions each.  10 minute breaks.

                                                 Science tests  66 questions each. 

 

Please be sure your student has had a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast each morning of testing. We will be providing a light, mid-morning snack during scheduled breaks.
