6-Role Play: Letters during the American Revolution

pens

Students (male) will be writing as farmers who are away from home on the battlefield during the American Revolution. Some students (female) will be writing as the wives that have taken on the responsibility of running the farm or business that their husbands have left behind.. Letters should address the different lifestyles each are living as the war has affected their responsibilities.

  1. Dear Cristian,

The farm business is booming but it’s a difficult business to run being that it can get really busy. I don’t know how you did it. How is the war going? What is it like to witness the battle? The kids ask when you’re coming home everyday. One of our chickens is sick and it’s a lot more work to take care of everything and do all the work than I thought. Hope everything is going well out there on the battle field. Come home soon. GO PATRIOTS!

    Forever & For Always,
        Nicole

  10. Dear Husband,
Once you have left the farm life has gotten difficult, at times, and sometimes it has got better. I would have to feed the cows, horses, and the other farm animals. We would have to get our own food, we have been eating the vegetables in our garden. Life is now getting better once the kids were grown up. The kids have been helping me on the farm. Theres not alot of fun without you. It has been quieter too. How is life being a soldier? Please write back.

    Sincerly,
    Cathy

  11. Dear Husband,
Life is very difficult because I needed to do many things. This are the stuff like: taking care of the children, water the crops like: Carrots, Peaches, Grapes, and Tomatoes. I also needed to take care of the farm animals by giving them food and water. I also needed to make sure that the kids and I have clothing and blankets, and food and water. Now, that the kids grew up it is much easier because they could help by feeding the farm animals and the crops. I hope you are okay. I also hope you come back soon. Write me back.
    Sincerly,
    Edith

Your chickens, goats, cows, sheeps, and fish are all fine. How is war? Are you hurt? I am doing fine. How about you? Doing your jobs tells me that you work hard everyday.
        Yours Truly

Its been hard seen you lifted to war. I never knew how you did it by feeding the cows, chickens, dogs, sheep, and horses. I wish you come home. By the way the kids are almost going to war by playing drums. The crops are not growing and not selling. We are almost out of food and money. Life is very hard right now. Some of the kids are getting sick, but I really don’t have the money to do it. I wish you come home. Please right back I want to know who are you.

Life has been hard ever since you left for war. Taking care of the farm is hard work because I have to feed all the animals and the rooster always wakes me up early and it’s tiring. I didn’t know how it was like farming until now. Life has
changed and business is still booming. The kids have been asking when you’re coming home and I say whenever. But how’s life there? Is it difficult? Are you okay?
