News For 2019 – 2020 School Year

Our school will remain on a year-round 4 track calendar. It will be necessary to make some involuntary track changes. These track changes will be instituted based on registration date and time. Although we do not like to make involuntary track changes, it is required so that we are able to maintain as many students as possible on our campus. Every effort is made to avoid “offloading” students to other schools. As we work through the process of assigning children’s teachers for the upcoming school year, every attempt will be made to accommodate our families’ schedules and requests in regard to specific tracks.

Track change request forms for the 2019-2020 school year are being accepted. These requests are honored based on space availability on a particular track and by date/time in the order received.

Track and teacher assignments will be available on
Friday, June 28th after 4:00 PM.

Academic Talent Search @ Sacramento State

Students from Elitha Donner Elementary are invited to participate in Sacramento State’s Academic Talent Search (ATS) Program! ATS provides 4th-9th graders (grade level as off January 1st, 2017) with over 100 fun, interactive, and unique summer courses in a collegiate environment. Courses cover traditional subjects as well as new and creative topics not always available in regular school.

In the past 35 years, more than 44,500 students have participated in ATS, and last year, ATS granted over $29,000 in financial aid scholarships and testing fee waivers to students. ATS is a self-supporting, non-profit program that receives no University, state, or federal funding.

ATS summer courses are specially designed for two age groups: grades 4-5 and grades 6-9 (4th graders will not be in classes with 9th graders). Current 4th and 5th graders can explore hands-on classes designed to encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills while engaging with other students who share their enthusiasm for learning. Current 6th-9th graders can accelerate their learning in traditional subjects and discover college majors and potential career paths as they gain self-confidence and independence in a university environment. ATS students have access to university facilities like the library, student union, and campus eateries!

To join in on this fun and educational opportunity, students simply take a short exam that automatically qualifies them for the program and no test preparation is required since it is not a “pass or fail” exam. You MUST take the test to qualify for ATS, but you don’t have to apply if you change your mind. Elitha Donner Elementary will be offering the ATS Exam on Friday, February 3 at 1:15 pm . For more information about signing up to take the test, click on the document links below or email Brenda Plath

About The Film
“Are you watching kids scroll through life, with their rapid-fire thumbs and a six-second attention span? Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that with her own kids and learned that the average kid spends 6.5 hours a day looking at screens. She wondered about the impact of all this time and about the friction occurring in homes and schools around negotiating screen time—friction she knew all too well.”

Lawsuit Forces California Department of Education to Release Student Private Personal Data

The California Department of Education (CDE) has been ordered by the courts to release to a nonprofit called California Concerned Parents the “protected personal information of children, including children with disabilities, children who requested an assessment or who were assessed for special education eligibility, and children who are attending, or who have attended a California school at any time since January 1, 2008.”
The Elk Grove Unified School District was never involved in the lawsuit or subject to any of the allegations in the suit.  The CDE is required by the court directive to turn over the personal records of all students it collects statewide. Data collected by the state from EGUSD is limited.
Click here to learn more and to file an objection. Parents have until April 1, 2016 to inform the court of their objection.

Digital Citizenship – Adults Need to Know More

If your children have access to a computer, smartphone or tablet you can help guide them as they travel online. Most parents would not let their children travel alone after dark in the real world and yet they often don’t know what their children are doing online. The online world can be a dark and scary place. The two resources below will help you and your children learn the facts of using any device connected to the Internet.

Although students at Elitha Donner learn digital citizenship throughout the school year, you can reinforce what they learn and guide them at home as well.
