As part of our college to career program, Elitha Donner will feature different colleges throughout the school year.  Our students will learn interesting facts about colleges throughout the United States.  Need to clean out the closet or clean off those shelves?  Donate your college memorabilia or items to be used during our spirit rallies.

August 19th – (Tuesday) – “DONNER DINER NIGHT”@ CHILI’S – “Join us for our first “Donner Dinner” of the school year at Chili’s, next Tuesday, August 19th!  They offer a variety of delicious foods and beverages, plus it is right around the corner!  So take a night off from cooking & doing dishes and help our school raise money for your child’s school supplies & assemblies.  Just show the attached flyer and our school will get credit for both DINE-IN and TAKE OUT orders the entire day.  We look forward to seeing you there!”  (Flyer Attached)Chili’s Donner Dinner fundraiser 8-19-14 (.pdf)

Student Accident Insurance:

The school district assumes no liability for accidents to students at school (E.C. 49472, 49471, 48980) and the district does not provide medical insurance for individual students. However, you may purchase student accident insurance if you wish to do so. The insurance provides coverage for your child while on school grounds or in school building during the time your child is required to be there during a regular school day while being transported by the district to and from school or other place of instruction; or while at any other place as an incident to school-sponsored activities and while being transported to, from and between such places.

SCHOOL GARDEN:

Our school garden needs your help.  As our students begin their live garden experience, we are in need of a few garden supplies.  If you are able to donate any of the following, please bring items to our school office:

Garden mulch
Planting soil
Gardening Tools
Other Garden related items to be used by students

If you love digging in soil, pulling weeds, and beautifying a garden volunteers are always needed. Please help us keep our garden looking beautiful by contacting Ms. Corral or our school office today at 683-3073.

STAFF APPRECIATON WEEK AT ELITHA DONNER ELEMENTARY

APRIL 28TH – MAY 2nd

Join us in showing our awesome teachers, yard supervisors, office staff, custodians, food service staff, para-educators and bus drivers how much we appreciate all they do for our kids!  We will be honoring Donner staff throughout the week with treats and surprises.  This is a great time to have your child write a “Thank You” note or make a special treat for those who have helped them at school this year.

April 29th (Tuesday) – “BOOK SWAP – TRACK C – All C Track students are encouraged to participate in the Donner Book Swap this Tuesday. Students will have the opportunity to look for a book during their lunch recess.  All students can participate even if they did not bring in a book to swap.  We ask that “Book Swap” books be returned to the school office when children are no longer interested in reading them.

 (We are accepting books for the book swap.  Please bring in any new or gently used books that your child no longer reads or is interested in.  This allows us to provide other children with new and exciting books to read and your child benefits from finding a new book as well. We are especially in need of chapter books at the 4th – 6th grade level and up.

“AR TEST TAKING” Our school’s LIBRARY is open for ALL students (whether on or off track) to take AR tests from 2:00-3:00PM.  No Library services are available during this time.

LAST DAY TO TAKE ACCELERATED READER TESTS FOR TRACKS C & D – The last day for students on Tracks C & D to take AR tests to qualify for the AR Barbeque is this Wednesday, April 30th.  Students may continue to take AR tests to satisfy academic requirements.  Please contact your child’s teacher for information on grade requirements and deadlines.

May 1st (Thursday) “WELCOME BACK – TRACK B” – School resumes for all Track B students.

May 2nd (Friday) 7th ANNUAL DOLPHIN DASH – TRACKS A & B – It’s time once again for our Dolphin Dash Jog-a-thon for Tracks A & B.  The jog-a-thon will be held this Friday. Donation sheets have been sent home in the Communication Folders All money earned goes to offsetting the transportation cost of our 6th grade field trip to Sly Park.  Money earned by all 5th graders is directly credited to their Sly Park account for next year’s trip.  Because of the combined effort of ALL of our students, the cost for the Sly Park trip has remained the same for the past 7 years!  Happy Jogging!!!!

PTA MOVIE NIGHT

Elitha Donner PTA Movie Night is this Friday.  Join us this Friday, “For a really cool time watching Frozen“. The Donner multipurpose room doors will open at 5:30pm for dinner and the movie will start at 6:00pm. Bring your blankets & pillows and enjoy an evening out!

The PTA will have hotdogs, pizza, drinks, popcorn and candy for purchase. We will also have prizes to be raffled off throughout the evening. We look forward to seeing you and your family at our FREE Movie Night event! Don’t miss it!

DONNER NEWS: Week of April 14-18

April 14th (Monday) “NO SPRING BREAK FOR YEAR ROUND SCHOOLS” – School is in session for Tracks A, C, & D this week.  All A, C, & D track students are expected to be in school this week.

“SBAC FIELD TESTING BEGINS FOR ALL 3RD -6TH GRADERS ON TRACKS C & D” – Please help your child to do their best by ensuring a good night’s sleep and they arrive to school on time.  Students who are late will not be allowed into the classroom until the testing session for that day is completed.  Missed tests will have to be taken as a make-up. (See attached parent letter for more information on the new SBAC testing aligned to the Common Core State Standards.) Every Tuesday before school (7:55-8:05 AM) pencils, rulers, erasers, and other school tools will be on sale at great prices in the Student Store location as well as in the 1st grade quad.  Prices range from $0.25 to $1.00!  All proceeds benefit the Elitha Donner Elementary Honor Society’s community service projects.

April 7th (Monday) “WELCOME BACK – TRACK A” – School resumes for all “A” Track students today.  School begins at 8:10am.  The first bell rings at 8:05am.  All students are expected to be in their classroom by 8:10am.

April 9th (Wednesday) – PARENT UNIVERSITY MATH NIGHT #2 – Join us for the Laguna Creek Regional Parent Math Night at John Ehrhardt Elementary School this Wednesday evening from 6:15-7:45pm. (See attached flyer for more details) Parent Night II (.pdf)

April 10th (Thursday) – “MINIMUM DAY FOR STAFF DEVELOPMENT”

This minimum day is dedicated to staff development for our teachers and support staff.  We will be focusing on more in depth strategies relating to the new Common Core Standards.

FIVE STAR FAMILY – Are you a Five Star Family? Make sure that you are getting your qualifying activities punched on your Five Star Family punch card. This can be done at any qualifying event or in the office. There are a few end of year events left that you can use to qualify as a Five Star Family: Regional Parent Math Night on April 9th, Open House, become a PTA member, attend the PTA meeting on May 23, participate in our Jog a Thon or Jump rope for Heart fundraisers. March 11th (Tuesday)“AR TEST TAKING” Our school’s LIBRARY is open for ALL students (whether on or off track) to take AR tests from 2:00-3:00PM.  No Library services are available during this time.

March 12th (Wednesday) “BRING YOUR FAMILY TO LUNCH DAY” FOR TRACKS C & D – You and your family are invited to join your child at school for their lunch and lunch recess. Enjoy lunch with your child and their friends and see what your child enjoys doing at recess! And don’t miss our “Harvest Fruit & Vegetable Bar” (See attached flyer for additional information and what we will be serving for lunch)

 THANK YOU FROM YOUR PTA!- The PTA would like to send a very warm Thank You to all of the Elitha Donner families and staff for their awesome support!  It has been great seeing and meeting a lot of you on campus and at our recent fundraising events.  Hopefully you had a fun time at the Ice Cream Social two weeks ago.  We sure did!  Our Donner Dinner this past Monday at Chipotle was a huge success, bringing in over $500 to support our school’s assemblies. 

 Another fundraising campaign we are participating in is the GiveWith.Target program.  With each on-line vote, our school will receive $1.  These funds can be used for much needed school supplies for our classrooms.  Simply go to GiveWith.Target.com and submit your vote for Elitha Donner Elementary.  To participate in this campaign you must have a Facebook account, and can vote multiple times.  (See the attached flyer for more information)

 EGUSD ATTENDANCE CAMPAIGN IS BACK – It’s a new school year– and that means it’s once again time to kick off the Attendance Campaign!  If you come to school every day in September, you are eligible to win a free admission pass to Fairytale Town or free tokens from Chuck E. Cheese’s.  And don’t forget about the Perfect Attendance Bike Giveaway!  It’s back for an 8th amazing year.  For each month of perfect attendance, elementary school students will earn an entry into a drawing for a brand new bike and helmet at the end of the school year.  It’s that easy!  So keep coming to school – and it could be you spending a day at Fairytale Town or Chuck E.  WALK TO SCHOOL DAY – Walk to School Day is coming Wednesday, October 2nd.

We are in need of volunteers to help set up and take down the decorations, supervise event areas, walk with the students, or come and enjoy the presentations with your child. We can use your help the day before Walk to School Day or the day of the event. If you are interested please email Mr. Jackson at sfjackso@egusd.net  or call the school at 683-3073.  It’s a great day to volunteer!

 Want to help but are unable to do so at the event donations of ½ pint water bottles store bought muffins or donuts and whole fruit, such as bananas, grapes, oranges, etc. would be much appreciated Donations can be dropped off at the office any time before the event.
