Please join us for our monthly PTA General Meeting on Wednesday, February 6 at 7 p.m. in the library. There is a full agenda, all focused directly on helping our children get the best education available!

Another way to help is to participate in the Lables of Education, Box Tops for Education, and MyCokeRewards programs. All three of these programs provide support in the way of cash or materials through products many of us already buy. Please read on for a few words from our coordinator, Marissa Maranise.

My name is Marissa Maranise and I am the coordinator for CRES for Labels for Education and Box Tops for Education. Both of these programs are very simple ways to help support our school. By purchasing products (at the store or on-line) you can contribute to our school. Both of these programs allow CRES to purchase things for Acedemincs, Art, and Athletics.

Sumitting is very easy. Clip our your label for education or box top, collection sheets can be downloaded from each of the websites, glue the labels and/or box tops to the sheet and submit to your student’s teacher. Be sure to include student’s name and teacher as there could be prizes for submitting the most labels or box tops. For more convenience there are also two other drop off locations in our community. There is a box at Plaza Foods (near the cards and coffee) and a box at the RMA office.

Have students ask relatives, friends, and/or neighbors to help collect as many label and box tops as possible.

Here is a link to the Labels for Education website.

If you have any questions please contact me at marissamaranise@yahoo.com or 916-798-6832. I’ll be happy to answer any questions. PTA Newsletter February 2013 (.pdf)

The current School Accountability Report Card (SARC) is available online at the Elk Grove Unified School District website at http://www.egusd.net/schools/sarcs/index.cfm. Both a long detailed format and a short executive summary are posted for parents to learn more about the schools in our community.

Each school’s SARC summarizes the school’s mission, goals, accomplishments, and highlights the school’s unique programs. In addition, state law requires that the SARC contain all of the following: demographic data, school safety and climate for learning information, academic data, school completion rates, class sizes, teacher and staff information, curriculum and instruction descriptions, postsecondary preparation information, fiscal and expenditure data.

The federal No Child Left Behind law requires that SARCs contain reports concerning the “adequate yearly progress” of students in achieving state academic achievement standards; Title I Program Improvement status; graduation rates at the secondary level; and the extent to which “highly qualified” teachers are teaching core academic subjects.

A hard copy of these reports can be requested by visiting your child’s school office. Additionally, these reports have been translated in Spanish and Hmong at schools with large populations of families who speak these languages. Any questions regarding the SARCs can be answered by your child’s principal or by contacting Learning Support Services at 686-7712.

Dear CRES Families,

This year, Jim Les, Coach of the UC Davis Men’s Basketball team, and his players are challenging elementary school students from around the Sacramento area to read! Our school is participating in their Reading Program this year. In our office and library, you may have seen the posters of the UC Davis Aggies Basketball players reading their favorite childhood books. As participants in the program, every CRES student and staff member is receiving a complimentary ticket to a UC Davis home basketball game. Our game is on Saturday, January 26 when the Aggies play the Highlanders from UC Riverside. On Friday, your child will be receiving a voucher (on a white, 8.5×11 sheet of paper) with all the information, directions, and a campus map with directions (including free parking in lots 30 and 35 only since it’s a weekend).

Please contact Mr. Gulden (mgulden@egusd.net) with any questions regarding this exciting event!

Dear Rancho Murieta Families,

The YMCA Child Care program located on the campus of Cosumnes River Elementary School is conducting a community interest survey. The Y would like to know if there are families in the community that would be interested in a half day preschool program for children ages 4-5 offered from 8am – 12pm daily. This program would provide a Kindergarten readiness based curriculum and help ease the transition into the Kindergarten Classroom. If this is an option in which you might be interested, please return the attached survey to Jen Moore at the CRES YMCA (forms may be dropped off in the school office). pre-k survey (.pdf)
