The End of August

Here’s what I’ve been doing:
Rode my bike 618 miles during the month of August
Longest ride: 39 miles
Highest speed: 40.3 mph (scary)
Lots of chores around the house
Watching Casey play water polo
Watching Trevor play soccer
Watching lots of movies (State of Play was good)

Hi to Ember; do good in middle school

Vacation Update

Well, I’m on vacation (hopefully you are too!). I’ve been riding my bike alot, 172 miles this week. I have been doing alot of things on my “to do” list. Today I’m getting my iTunes collection organized and updated. I spent a bunch of money on a 50% deal at Eastbay.com, so I’ll be looking good when I come back. I picked a new principal for David Reese; I think you’ll like her.

Eliana Villafuerte is the winner of “Super Vacation Student #1″ for going in and taking an AR test (my spies told me).

Hi to Vanessa! I have a beautiful picture of you, me, and Alondra that I have to hang up when I get back.

Keep reading, and if you post a comment here, it’s extra credit for you!

What is he trying to say? What does he mean? What do you think, agree or disagree? What does it mean for you? What does he want you to do? What will you do differently? How does this effect your life?
It’s because there is no stronger weapon against inequality and no better path to opportunity than an education that can unlock a child’s God-given potential.

For our kids to excel, we have to accept our responsibility to help them learn. That means putting away the Xbox, putting our kids to bed at a reasonable hour.

Blog Assignment – Respond to Literature
Read the following quote from President Obama, think about it, ponder the questions below, then write a post in your blog with your response. Title it Aspire.

What is he trying to say? What does he mean? What do you think, agree or disagree? What does it mean for you? What does he want you to do? What will you do differently? How does this effect your life?
It also means pushing our children to set their sights a little bit higher. They might think they’ve got a pretty good jump shot or a pretty good flow, but our kids can’t all aspire to be LeBron or Lil Wayne. I want them aspiring to be scientists and engineers — doctors and teachers — not just ballers and rappers. I want them aspiring to be a Supreme Court Justice. I want them aspiring to be the President of the United States of America.

No one has written your destiny for you. Your destiny is in your hands — you cannot forget that. That’s what we have to teach all of our children. No excuses. No excuses.
