There are 2 things I want you to do on your vacation: Read & Write

Read: Read every day for an hour in an AR book. You can come back to school and see any teacher to take an AR quiz on the book you finished. Make sure to read carefully and take notes so you don’t forget. If you go to my blog, on the right side under “Special Class Links”, click “Files” and there you will find the AR Quiz list by alphabetical order and book level.

Write: Write in your blog as much as you like. Write about anything; what you’re doing, movie reviews, make up stories, music, add pictures, talk about TV shows, the Olympics, video games, whatever. Just write! I’ll be reading them and posting comments. You can also read your friend’s blog and comment. Make sure the comments are positive and appropriate.

Now, for the 504 Vocabulary Quiz #3

When you finish, read in your AR book.

Toosday

Part I

Read the paragraph that uses the 504 words, then on a sheet of paper, do the fill in the blanks sentences. Number from 1-12, then write the correct word. Use your notes!

Part II

One of the most important things we need to do with our writing this year is to edit. This means to go back to a piece that is basically finished, and to look at it carefully. Read it out loud to see if it sounds right. Check the spelling, punctuation, capitalization, etc. Then see what you can add or change to make it better. How can you make it more descriptive? Can I add words or a sentence to give more detail? Can I add an opinion sentence to tell what I think? Do I have a good topic sentence and concluding sentence?

Now go to your blog and go back to your “Best Book Ever” post and edit it.

Moonday

I have graded your essays, posted a comment and posted your grade. You get a 1, 2, 3, or 4 depending on how good it is. Look at the comment, then try to address that issue in this week’s writing. This week’s writing will be easier and more fun.

For today’s writing, we will be going to the on-line encyclopedia “Wikipedia”. It’s an encyclopedia that anyone can add to. You are going to read a random article for a few minutes. I will then ask you to go to your blog and write about what you read. Remember to use your own words.

When you go to Wikipedia, there is a link on the left that says “Random article”. Click it to get a random article. If you don’t like the 1st one, click it again, but no more than 5 times. You’ll learn about something new.

Ok, here’s the link for Wikipedia.
